Woodinville Wine Country,Great Wine, Friendly Place, Easy To Get To!
Woodinville Wine Country, situated in the Sammamish River Valley, is a friendly community where you will find people dedicated to producing great wine. It is also an "easy to get to" place. Located just minutes from Seattle, it is perfect for a day trip; but please, don't limit yourself!
Woodinville wine country is a relatively new "idea". Originally this was farming and logging country, but somewhere along the line a wine industry sprung up.
But why Woodinville? As you drive through the area you don't see miles and miles of vineyards, most grapes are shipped in from the eastern part of the State; but there are a couple of good reasons why this area developed into a wine vacation destination.
The first is that back in the days, land was relatively inexpensive, so it was easy to find a place to start small. Second, Woodinville is close to Seattle, and this proximity assures a steady stream of visitors. Unlike Walla Walla, which does have miles and miles of vineyards but is quite isolated, Woodinville is easy to get to and a very friendly place. You will find quite a few wineries, large and small.
The North side of town is home to several "boutique" wineries. the so called "Warehouse District" and its small wine producers have carved out a winning combination; premium wines, winemakers who are accessible and willing to share their knowledge, and most wineries at walking distance from one another.
Woodinville Wine Trail South
Here is where you will find the Grand Dames of Washington wine. The beautiful Chateau Ste. Michelle. Stroll through the lovely grounds, have a picnic on the manicured lawn; and if you are there in the summer, stay for the concert. But it is the wine that brought you here so taste and enjoy.
The other "biggie" is Columbia Winery. Take a tour of the winery, or a cooking class, or marriage bows. If you decide on the marriage bows, your wedding reception would be grand!
In Woodinville you will find good food and great lodgings along with the wine, so make it a weekend stay! and don't miss the Passport to Woodinville, held in April. Plan ahead for this event, and buy your passport early, as they often sell out.
